Intensive Family Wraparound Service
The journey of a child and family within the Intensive Family Wraparound Service (IFWS) unfolds in three stages. The stages are similar to the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch butterfly is a chiefly butterfly in Te Ao Māori (the Māori world) and is called the Kākahu. Stand Tū Māia has chosen the Kākahu to represent and acknowledge the paramountcy of the child in our organisation.
Family Therapy Services
Stand Tū Māia now offers a Family Therapy Service. The focus of the new service is to provide a response to protect the most vulnerable children/young people aged 0 to 18 years of age (including unborns) from further maltreatment/exposure to chronic trauma, and to support their recovery from that exposure and enhance their wellbeing.
Social services in schools
The vision of the Social Services in Schools is to “enhance life outcomes for children whose social and family circumstances place at risk their chances of achieving good education, social and health outcomes.”
Stand Tū Māia provides the service in Christchurch, Gisborne and Northland. Social Services in Schools are assigned to clusters of schools in each area and work closely with the schools and other agencies. The service is available to primary, intermediate and secondary schools.
Kidzacool Adventures
Quality support and respite for kin/whanau/foster carers.
Our KidzaCool Adventures programme gives children the opportunity to play and relax in a fun, safe and sociable environment while kin/whanau/foster carers work, relax or catch up with friends and family. We like to think we offer kin/whanau/foster carers peace of mind while offering children, aged 5-12, a piece of the action! The programme is a free service for caregivers.
Please note, to apply you must have had the child in your care for the last 12 months and not be the biological or adoptive parents.
Working with families
Our social workers complete a full family assessment that ensures the needs of the child can be met within the context of their family/whanau. We provide service brokerage and coordination for the child and family, often engaging the Strengthening Families process, as well as providing specific family development programmes and parent education alongside the work with the child. These can be delivered in the home, residential at our children’s village, one-on-one or in groups.
Theraplay
Theraplay is a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, physical, and fun. Theraplay interactions focus on four essential qualities found in parent-child relationships: Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge. Theraplay sessions create an active, emotional connection between the child and parent or caregiver, resulting in a changed view of the self as worthy and lovable and of relationships as positive and rewarding.

Healthy Heroes
The wonderful sound of children laughing usually means they are happy, healthy and contented. We owe it to our children to help them stay healthy and happy.
That is why Rotary has established the Healthy Heroes programme, so that all children can build habits of life that will help them have happy, healthy futures. Stand Tū Māia partnered with Rotary to promote the programme nationally. We participate in the delivery of the programme in Christchurch and Wellington.
Healthy Heroes is a simple, easy-to-follow home health programme for 8 to 12 year olds. There are five challenges for them to respond to each day, that promote good health and help protect them against obesity and type 2 diabetes.
