Our Board – Kāhui Poutokomanawa
As a core part of our ‘DNA’, our Kāhui Poutokomanawa have a fundamental role in strengthening service development, community relationships and ongoing governance of Stand Tū Māia. This means an active contribution to strategy, planning, policy, programme oversight and delivery, and staff development.
Poutokomanawa are chosen by respective mana whenua to represent and protect their people and their interests. The appointment by mana whenua of Poutokomanawa to Stand Tū Māia is a direct expression of respect, trust and commitment to shared aspirations for the most vulnerable in society.
Paraone Piraka
Matua Paraone was born at te takere o te waka Te Arawa, Owhata, Rotorua. He is guided by his ancestral houses of Tūtanekai and Hinemoa.
He is the Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia Midland, Rotorua, and a member of the Kāhui Poutūārongo, Stand Tū Māia Board of Trustees.
Matua Paraone is also Chair of Te Arawa Pukenga Kōeke and actively involved as a Chair and member in many local Marae committees, iwi and hapū trusts, and iwi, hapū, whānau development projects. He is of Ngāti Uenukukōpako descent.
Arapeta (Albie) Shelford
Matua Arapeta (Albie) is the Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia Northern, based in Whangārei. He is a trustee, director, board member, advisor, police chaplain and Chair for many marae, trusts, boards and committees in Te Tai Tokerau, and is a Minister of the Ratana Church.
Matua Albie was raised at Otamatea. He descends from Te Uri o Hau and Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara.
Morehu Pewhairangi
Morehu was raised in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne) but has whakapapa that extends all through Te Tairāwhiti. He is the Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia East Coast based in Gisborne. His two Pāpa that he remembers fondly were previous Poutokomanawa for the East Coast.
Morehu has been a kōhanga reo teacher, cultural advisor to the Kindergarten Association, devoted Te Ataarangi tutor, marae and hapū trustee and iwi spokesperson at many regional and national hui. He is a Minister of the Ringatu Haahi.
Shaquille Shortland
Pā Shaq is a director, board member, trustee, council advisor, cultural advisor and Chair for many marae, trusts, boards and committees in Te Tai Tokerau and Tāmaki Makaurau. He was a winner of the Kiwibank Local Community Hero award in 2020, and the Impact Award for Inclusion in 2019. He is the Executive Director for the Edmund Hillary Institute of International Leadership and Founder of the Tūāpapa Academy and Consultancy.
Pā Shaq is the Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia Auckland, based in Manukau. He is of Ngā Puhi Ngāti Terino, Ngāti Hine Te Orewai, Te Roroa, Ngāti Mahia, Te Uri o Hau and Ngāti Mahuta descent.
Ngāti Wheke
The Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia Christchurch is a hapū collective of the mana whenua of Rāpaki, Ngāti Wheke. Ngāti Wheke hold mana whenua and mana moana over Whakaraupō and the surrounding areas which includes the land the Stand Tū Māia Christchurch site is built on.
Matua Roy Tikao is the representative Poutokomanawa for Stand Tū Māia Christchurch and a member of the Kāhui Poutūārongo, Stand Tū Māia Board of Trustees. He has over 20 years leadership and management experience, is a mentor, trust Chair, owner/director, secretary and director. He is of Kai Tahu, Kāti Mamoe, Waitaha iwi descent and of Ngāti Wheke, Ngāti Irakehu hapū descent.
Louise McKenzie
Taua Louise McKenzie is one of the two Taua that share the Poutokomanawa position for the Southern Stand Tū Māia team. She is one of the founders and secretary of Te Ao Huri, a trustee for Whare Whakaruruhau and is currently the Chair for Uruuruwhenua. She has worked in education for over 40 years, as a school teacher, adult educator and an advisor. She is Ngāti Whatua ki Kaipara, Ngāti Wai ki Mahurangi.
Francie Diver
Taua Francie Diver QSM is also one of the two Taua that share the Poutokomanawa position for the Southern Stand Tū Māia team. She is a hospital director, tangata whenua representative and hākui for Central Otago Health Services. She is also a director for Uruuruwhenua. She has been a member of the National Advisory Council on Employment for Women, and a deputy community member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. She is Ngāi Tahu, Waitaha, Kāti Mamoe.
The Central Poutokomanawa position is currently vacant.
